By Craig Hubert | Before David Gordon Green started making stoner comedies as part of Team Apatow, he made quiet, moody dramas as part of Team Malick (a misnomer, of course — we all know Terrence Malick plays for no team). If the trailer for “Prince Avalanche” is any indication, Gordon Green seems to have melded the two polar opposite sides magnificently. Paul Rudd plays Alvin, who, along with his girlfriend’s brother Lane, played by Emile Hirsch, “leave the city behind to spend the summer in solitude repainting traffic lines down the center of a country highway ravaged by wildfire.” An English-language remake of the Icelandic film “Either Way,” the character study reportedly features just these two characters for most of the film. “The Odd Couple” meets Gus Van Sant’s “Gerry?” Watch the trailer below. “Prince Avalanche” will be available in theaters and on VOD August 9.
