By Bryan Hood | Last night TMZ reported that Lil Wayne was in critical condition and had been placed into a medically induced coma at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. An hour after the initial post, an update (which has now been scrubbed from the article) said that things were much worse than first suspected, and that the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, had been given last rites “with his family surrounding him to say their goodbyes.” Fortunately, it sounds like their unnamed source was incorrect.
As soon as the reports about Wayne being on his death bed started popping up online, members of his inner circle immediately contradicted them.
First, Mack Maine, president of Young Money (Wayne’s label):
Wayne is alive and well! We watching the Syracuse game…thanks for the prayers and concern..he will update you all soon. #love

Then Brian “Baby” Williams, a mentor of sorts to Wayne, tweeted:
My son is in good spirit..feelin much betta…be home soon.YMCMB — BIRDMAN (@BIRDMAN5STAR) March 16, 2013
And finally, as if to just pile on TMZ’s reporting, this tweet emenated from the rapper’s official account:
I’m good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love.

All of these tweets — and really is there anything more official than a tweet these days? — were followed up by an official email from the label’s publicist Sarah Cunningham, who told CNN that the rapper did have a seizure but was “recovering.” So, while we still don’t know exactly what is going on, it does appear that Wayne, while hospitalized, is not dying.
Wayne was reportedly first hospitalized on Tuesday after experiencing “multiple seizures” after video shoot. He was released the next day, but, according to TMZ, was hospitalized hours later after his bodyguard found him unconscious in his room.
