1. Cate Blanchett is set to work with HBO on an adaptation of Marisa Acocella Marchetto’s graphic novel memoir “Cancer Vixen: A True Story.” Blanchett, who will produce and star in the project, will play the author, “a shoe-crazy, lipstick-obsessed, wine-swilling, pasta-slurping, fashion-fanatic, about-to-get-married big-city girl cartoonist with a fabulous life,” who “spends eleven months fighting cancer.” [Hollywood Reporter]

2. “The Office” co-star Jenna Fischer is following up her role on the long-running hit show with a part in Neil LaBute’s off-Broadway production of “Reasons to Be Happy.” The play revisits the characters from LaBute’s Tony-nominated “Reasons to Be Pretty” and will open June 11. Previews begin May 16. [Deadline]

3. Due to scheduling issues, Michael Fassbender has left Lynne Ramsey’s “Jane Got a Gun,” set to star Natalie Portman, causing a rearrangement of the cast. Joel Edgerton, who was originally cast at the villain in the film, has now moved into Fassbender’s role and Jude Law has come aboard to play the villain. The shift in roles comes just a few weeks before shooting is set to begin. [Vulture]

4. Hoping for some repeat success, Sony has set a release date for David O. Russell’s next film, the formally titled “American Bullshit.” The movie, starring Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Amy AdamsLouis C.K., and Jennifer Lawrence, “will tell the true story of a famed financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams) who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. At the epicenter of the entire tale is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner), who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.” [Indiewire]

5. Listen to Best Coast and her pet, Snacks the Cat, perform a reverb-drenched cover of Roy Orbison’s “Crying.” Maybe there’s a future collaboration between Best Coast, Lil’ B, and their cats? [Stereogum]
