1. Maybe it’s time to start getting (cautiously) excited about the planned “Godzilla” reboot. The latest name attached to the 2014 popcorn flick: Juliette Binoche. The “Cosmopolis” and “Caché” star is in talks to appear alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Another promising sign for the movie – articles about the film are no longer mentioning Bryan Cranston (which, as we pointed out here, is not a bad thing). [Hitfix]

2. Do you occasionally find yourself lying around the house wondering whatever happened to Martin Short? Well, wonder no more, as the comedian is in negotiations to appear in NBC’s as-yet-untitled John Mulaney sitcom. The show will reunite Short with Lorne Michaels, who he worked with during his “Saturday Night Live” days. [THR]

3. Everyone’s favorite primetime soap opera, “Downton Abbey,” plans to add a black character to next season’s cast. A casting note sent out to agents describes the new character, musician Jack Ross, thusly: “He’s black and very handsome. A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma.” We’re sure the show, one that we’d never accuse of lacking subtlety, will handle the drama of the character’s addition with all the nuance it deserves…  [The Sun via Gawker]

4.  Even more casting news! Kathy Bates is in talks to join the third season of Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story.” The actress will star alongside series veteran Jessica Lange, first as her new character’s friend and then as her enemy. It’ll mark a return to television for Bates, who has taken time away from the small screen since her series “Harry’s Law” was cancelled at the end of last season. [TV Line]

5.  Watch the video for garage rockers Bleached’s new single, “Next Stop,” which features hotel parties, stick ‘n’ poke tattoos, and motorcycles. [Spin]
