1. Legendary record executive Clive Davis is working toward bringing a revival of “My Fair Lady” to Broadway in 2014. “I was always hoping that the tradition of great musicals giving birth to songs that are part of the fabric of our culture would continue. But that has not happened,” Davis said in an interview. “I really want to make sure that the greatest musical of all time — which to me is ‘My Fair Lady’ — can show once again why a classic can be as meaningful half a century later as it was when it originally opened.” [LA Times]

2. Focus Features has picked up Mike Leigh’s upcoming biopic of British landscape painter J.M.W. Turner, set to star Leigh regular Timothy Spall. “Turner as a character is compelling,” Leigh said. “But what fascinates me most is the drama that lies in the tension between this driven eccentric and the epic, timeless world he evoked in his masterpieces.” Leigh worked with Focus Features on his last film, “Another Year.” [Hollywood Reporter]

3. Donald Byrd, the famous jazz trumpeter, died at the age of 80 earlier this week. Byrd began his career with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers while still in school, and would later play with John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, among many others, not to mention his extensive run of solo albums on Blue Note records. Byrd would later become one of the most sampled jazz musicians by hip-hop producers such as Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest and Public Enemy. [Billboard]

4. Michel Gondry has completed his long-in-the-works “Is the Tall Man Happy?” an animated documentary about Noam Chomsky. Gondry seems to have been extremely taken with the activist. “In the end, what will stay the most with me in these discussions is Noam Chomsky’s humanity,” Gondry said in a statement. “The way he respects people’s different ways of life, their beliefs – and, above all, the way he often includes his wife, Carol Chomsky, in the conversations, and in some way keeps her alive and next to him.” A trailer for the film can be seen here. No release date has been set. [Playlist]

5.  Matador Records released a preview video for “Wakin on a Pretty Daze,” the new album from Kurt Vile. The video, directed by Don Argott, features Philadelphia street artist ESPO painting a mural for the album featuring interpretations of “many of the album’s lyrics into a collection of icons.” [Pitchfork]
