By Bryan Hood | Well, well, well, it looks like R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet” isn’t the only beloved film being reworked for the stage. “Pan’s Labyrinth,” the always busy Guillermo del Toro’s 2006 movie about a young girl who takes refuge in a fantasy world during Franco’s facist rule of Spain, is being turned into a musical, reports Deadline. The Mexican director has apparently been working on the project for years now, quietly feeling out directors, librettists, and composers. While the musical doesn’t have a director yet, del Toro and Paul Ungar have written a book, with songwriter Paul Williams and composer Gustavo Santaolalla signed on to write the lyrics and music respectively. These are all the details we have now, but with the news that this is actually going to happen, expect more to come soon. Fortunately, with del Toro heavily involved in the project, it’s pretty safe to say the original film’s creepiness should stay in tact.
