The house formerly known as Yves Saint Laurent has a new face, and it’s the pallid, black-lipped face of epicene shock-rocker Marilyn Manson. A photograph — featuring Manson looking characteristically macabre in eyeliner, dark lipstick, and a shiny leather jacket — was posted by Scene editor Peter Davis on Friday and later confirmed by the Saint Laurent folks.
Saint Laurent creative director Hedi Slimane has already set a precedent for featuring musicians in Saint Laurent campaigns, including Girls frontman Christopher Owens, Beck, and Sky Ferreira. The choice dovetails nicely with Slimane’s unshakable penchant for nineties nostalgia, although the suburban mall goth aesthetic typically associated with Manson is a far cry from the Seattle grunge groupie look Slimane heralded on Saint Laurent’s fall runway.
