Eye on the Runway: Umit Benan Fall/Winter 2013 Men’s

Milan’s newest bad-boy, Umit Benan, sent out a revved-up men’s collection today centered around his now signature oversized constructions, but laced with a tone of menace thanks to chopped-and-sewn ski masks. It was an unexpected yet welcome evolution of his still fledgling label.

Benan tinkered with an abstract cubic motif on knits, even pants, as well as the jailbird stripes he’s used before — outstandingly in a cobalt and navy combo on an oversized belted overcoat. Another striking visual here was his all-over, uneven black dots on a white background, vaguely recalling static noise on a busted television.

The gamut ran from pinstriped-proper to alley-tough (the aforementioned masks paired with high-tops and shorts will surely end up in Dazed & Confused or insert-other-edgy-magazine-here). Say hello to the new brats of the urban wild.
