Even amid the kaleidoscope of London fashion, Roksanda Ilincic’s masterful manipulations of color stand out. Last season saw graphic orange and electric blue; for pre-fall, while still bold, colors were slightly softer — sherbet shades of orange, pink, lemon, and highlighter green — tempered with darker touches of blue and black.
For all the collection’s colorful whimsy, however, the construction was rather prim and proper, with a nod to the 1950s in long plaid skirts and A-line dresses. More formal looks included floor-length skirts with exaggerated hips that would likely prove difficult to wear, though statement-making.
In between the buttoned-up day dresses and Peter Pan collars, the collection was punctuated with two show-stopping gowns, bi-color columns split into iris and chartreuse and orange and pink, each with a deep neckline and a ruffle at the hip. If only starlets would turn to Ilincic this awards season, the red carpet would be much more memorable.
