With the hiring of Alexander Wang at Balenciaga, PPR has made it clear they’re eager to tap into the next generation of designers. Now the Paris-based luxury conglomerate seems to be looking across the channel, and rumors are swirling that they have their eye on Christopher Kane. The Scottish designer was considered a contender for the Balenciaga gig, and, ever since he gave up his design post at Versus, the gossip has only been heating up.
WWD reports that PPR managing director Alexis Babeau has been interviewing candidates for a CEO position at the label, in anticipation of an investment deal. The brand is currently run by Kane and his sister, Tammy. The last class of designers picked up by PPR included Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen — not bad company for an emerging designer.
