The muse at Chloé was mod this season, but Clare Waight Keller’s take on the trend looked to the more delicate side of 1960s dressing. With confectionary touches of spearmint, cream, and dusty rose, the collection offered more notes of Francophile first lady Jackie O than youthquke icon Twiggy.
Sophisticated femininity is something of a label staple, and the Chloé customer will be pleased to find that the season’s sweetness never turned saccharine. Case in point: a robin-egg blue motorcycle jacket. Trousers, too, were a highlight, whether slim and patterned or wide-legged and cropped at the ankle — all the better to show of the season’s buttery-sweet boots.
There was a strong French accent as well this season, with A-line skirts and cocoon coats in flecked tweed, calling to mind dreamy days in Le Marais.
