The Art of Commerce: Miu Miu’s Sultry Spring/Summer Campaign

The campaign has been released for the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2013 collection, and it’s a sophisticated mood for Prada’s little sister. Dark and suggestive, the Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin-shot images take an arty turn, with a bevy models — Malgosia Bela, Bette Franke, Martha Hunt, Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima, Arizona Muse, and Tamara Weijenberg — caught in “mise-en-scènes and still lifes, in a mysterious domestic setting,” the company said in a press release. The images are cool, bathed in “painterly light” and “muted tones,” like the worlds of Johannes Vermeer and Edward Hopper.

With their lush, enigmatic backdrops and ambiguous narrative, the images are a far cry from Prada’s stark campaign look for the season. It is, however, a fitting match for a collection filled with femme fatale fur mixed with unassuming dark denim, decadently lined with duchesse satin.
