Eye on the Runway: Erdem

Erdem Moralioglu’s reputation for florals isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but the designer is making more than pretty tea-party dresses. His look for Pre-Fall was darker, slightly subversive even, with touches of PVC, lamé, and rainbow-colored paillettes.

The color story for this garden party was a rich one, with plenty of the upcoming year’s emerald green, matched to a treasure trove full of jewel tones — amethyst, sapphire, and ruby — with touches of bright canary yellow and powder pink, plus an anchoring dose of black.

The polished collection consisted of an impressive 21 doubled-up looks, set amid the same peeling paint as his Resort offering. Its pieces skewed mostly toward ladylike dresses, with a few sweeping floor-length skirts and crisp pants for good measure. There were, of course, the designer’s famous allover prints, this time taking a slightly mod direction, especially when showcased on a simple collared dress with pockets or a dress coat/trouser two-piece that looked particularly Prada.
