The whiz-kids over at Vogue Germany have tapped photographer Bruce Weber as creative director for their January “Sex and Sensibility” issue. His first move? Shooting “Downton Abbey’s” Michelle Dockery (ice-queen extraordinaire Mary Crawley), Rob-James Collier (treacherous homosexual valet Thomas), Lesley Nicol (sassy Mrs. Patmore) and Elizabeth McGovern (Cora, the American).
Rendered in grayscale, the images retain Weber’s distinct aesthetic of wholesome Americana with a broodier wanton undertone, showcasing the photographer’s range outside of bonfires, golden retrievers, and cut surf-models (would it not be kind of amazing to see a “Downton Abbey” Abercrombie and Fitch campaign?) Along with art director Sam Shahid, Weber was given full control of the book – also pulling ubiquitous Kate Upton and Jessica Chastain into the gloss. Sensible, indeed.
