Fake Relics Podcast: the Shroud of Turin and the James Ossuary

The Secret History of Art podcasts are available through iTunes.  The latest podcast is a two-part series on famous fake relics, covering the phenomenon of fake religious relics dating back to the Middle Ages, with a focus on the Shroud of Turin (covered in a previous article in this column), and the James Ossuary.  The Shroud of Turin was proven to be a medieval forgery, created in the Middle Ages in order to appear to be an ancient religious relic.  The James Ossuary was an authentic ancient ossuary (box to contain human bones) with a forged inscription suggesting that the bones within belonged to Jesus’ brother, James.  To download the podcast episode, click here.  To subscribe to the podcasts, click here.
