Just months after revealing to Building Design that he was happily too busy with international commissions to build in his native UK, architect David Adjaye has been wooed by London developer Harry Handelsman to design a major new fashion hub for London’s Olympic fringe. According to BDOnline, Adjaye’s involvement hints at the perceived importance of the project as a way to rejuvenate this area of east London. The development is poised to be a “prestigious new fashion destination showcasing local design talent alongside international brands,” as Handelsman explained, adding that he expects the project to “become an integral part of the landscape.” Currently, the site is home to an Adjaye-designed wooden pavilion, also used for retail purposes.
