Forbes Magazine reports that the Art Collection of British Indian film producer is to be Auctioned by Christie’s London. The Oscar-winning producer, who passed away in 2005, had worked on a number of iconic films with director James Ivory, including: Shakespeare Wallah, A Room with a View and The Golden Bowl.
According to Amin Jaffer, international director of Asian art at Christie’s, Merchant’s cross-cultural fascination is precisely why the collection is so interesting. “Most of the works are a hybrid,” he says. “That’s what makes the sale rare.”
