Back in April, we published an excerpt from Gideon Lewis-Karus’s travelogue/memoir A Sense of Direction. The book came out in May, and its beginning is one of the wittiest accounts of Berlin’s art world you will find. On the more serious end, though, Lewis-Krauss describes meeting artist David Levine, an “experimental theater director and conceptual artist who thought the two worlds had something to learn from each other.”
Levine is now fundraising for a new project, Habit, a 10-day theater piece in September at the Essex Street Market, in New York’s Lower East Side. On the project’s Kickstarter page, its organizers write, “We have put the bare minimum to keep the show free as our goal, but we’re people who like to pay actors and crew as well as we can for the work they do, particularly in this show; and right now to make this happen, a lot of people have offered to work for free or reduced rates. If we pass our goal and keep on going, then you will make us better employers. Thank you!”
