The Getty Museum has decided that its Bust of Maria Cerri Capranica, formerly of the William Randolph Hearst collection and acquired in 2000, is likely by Alessandro Algardi. Previously it was assigned to Giulani Finelli, Bernini’s chief assistant. The better-known Algardi was Bernini’s archrival. Both the old and new attributions were/are qualified as “Attributed to…”
