I’m off enjoying a snow-flocked President’s Day today, but in the mean time check out artist Ben Schumacher’s new curatorial project, “Saint Lawrence Ice.” Schumacher gathered and transported the work of over 30 artists to the frozen Saint Lawrence River off the coast of Wolfe Island, located in between upstate New York and Ontario, Canada. Wisely, Schumacher relies heavily–if not entirely–on the exhibition’s documentation, knowing that his audience’s first point of entry will likely be that of Tumblr or other websites.

This brings to mind artists working through the exact opposite strategy, such as Luc Tuymans, whose show “Corporate” at David Zwirner illustrated the impossibility of reproducing his optically-sensitive paintings through digital media. At any rate, Schumacher does a fantastic job bringing together like minded artists ranging from bigger names such as Carol Bove (above) to those emerging such as Artie Vierkant or Paul Cowan. Definitely dig through the fascinating documentation.

Lastly, if you haven’t checked out last Friday’s post on Joe Bradley, be sure to do so. See you tomorrow.
