They’re the flappers of the week – but neither of them is Carey Mulligan’s Daisy Buchanan. In a Vimeo clip from Claude Friese-Greene’s silent 1924-26 “The Open Road,” which has gone viral on the Internet thanks to Tweets by Kevin Spacey and Stephen Fry, two “bright young things” in cloches chat as they stroll elegantly in their heels in sunlit Hyde Park and pass a suited black man. Filmed in color, it’s a serene visual analogue to the start of Virginia Woolf’s “Mrs. Dalloway,” which was published the year before. Read the full article here
