Having written and directed last year’s film adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel “Cosmopolis,” David Cronenberg will now act in a movie based on the author’s novella “The Body Artist.” It will be renamed “Body Art” and directed by Luca Guadagnino, best known outside Italy for his Visconti-esque haute-bourgeois tragedy “I Am Love” (2009). RZA’s Attempted Conquest of Cinema Prompts a Genghis Khan Biopic

RZA, whose directing debut “The Man With the Iron Fists” is scheduled to open Friday, will follow the martial-arts actioner with an epic about Genghis Khan. He’ll thus follow in the footsteps of Dick Powell, helmer of the John Wayne vehicle “The Conqueror” (1956), almost certainly the worst film about the rapacious Mongol emperor, and Ardak Armikulov, the Kazakh filmmaker responsible for “The Fall of Otrar” (1990), perhaps the best. Will Michael Bay’s “Treasure Island” Prequel Prove to Be Pirate Heaven or a Rum Do?

The piracy fan craze triggered by the success of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series will soon be exploited on cable and television. Michael Bay, the visually grandiloquent director of “Pearl Harbor” and the “Transformers” movies, is to produce the neatly titled “Black Sails,” an eight-part prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” for the STARZ channel as it attempts to compete with Showtime and HBO.
