Baden Württemberg’s art minister, Theresia Bauer, held a small ceremony on Thursday morning to welcome Christiane Lange to her new post as director of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. The 48 year old art historian and curator was named the successor of Sean Rainbird in May, who has since joined the Tate Gallery staff in London as an expert in 20th century German art and now serves as director of the Irish National Gallery in Dublin.
Christiane Lange has worked for the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich since 2000, when she started as a curator under Johann Georg Prinz von Hohenzollern. In 2006, she took over the Kunsthalle as director. Lange brings broader perspective to the Staatsgalerie, having also studied folklore and Church history extensively.
