Frieze has announced the seven artists who have been commissioned to make works for the London fair’s Projects section this October. This year, curator Nicola Lees chose to highlight multi-disciplinary practices that encompass dance, film, and music. “Dance and choreography have emerged as signiﬁcant threads running though this year’s Projects program, with artists exploring the dynamics between on-stage/back-stage, and the processes of rehearsal,” Lees said in a statement.

For the moving image component of 2013’s Frieze London art fair, the Frieze Foundation — under the direction of Frieze Films curator Nicola Lees and co-curator Victoria Brooks — has commissioned new works by internet artist and serial surf club member Petra Cortright, Peter Gidal — whose films typically investigate writing through a combination of sounds and text — Patricia Lennox-Boyd — whose commission will investigate salespersons’ hand gestures — Soviet-era found footage splicer Oraib Toukan, and Erika Vogt, who plans to create an “anti-commercial commercial.” The artists will develop and created their commissioned pieces during a production residency at the Curtis R. On Tuesday Frieze London announced the lineup for its “Projects” program at the upcoming London edition in October at Regent’s Park. Frieze Projects is a curated group of site-specific commissions that are placed throughout the fair, which runs October 17-20. The program will include seven commissioned projects, as well as the Emdash award, which allows an emerging artist from outside the U.K. to present a new work at the fair. One of the most sought-after curatorial posts in London has been filled: Nicola Lees will take over from Sarah McCrory as Frieze Foundation’s curator.
