Here’s an exclusive excerpt from my groundbreaking new book, “Artists Instagramming Their Own Artwork At Art Fairs,” which I’m hoping PowerHouse will be publishing in 2018. In this image we see Daniel Arsham, an artist best known for sculptures presenting gradually decaying common objects, as well as for his friendship with experimental-milliner-supporter Pharrell. His piece at Frieze New York appears to be the arm of a basketball player holding a ball, except that chunks of the arm’s flesh have been removed, perhaps by zombies or cannibals. Speaking of cannibalism: Couldn’t help but notice the work’s similarity to more polished riffs on the same theme by Hank Willis Thomas.
