3,000 Cans of Beer on the Floor at Frieze

Kader Attia's "Halam Tawaaf"

If you’ve ever tried to take stock of your house after a particularly raucous night — especially if that house is the kind that is adorned with Greek letters — then the scene at Lehmann Maupin’s Frieze booth probably looks somewhat familiar.

Kader Attia’s “Halam Tawaaf,” 2008, consists of 2,978 tall beer cans — Heineken, Amstel, Königsbacher — elegantly bent at the top and arranged in a ring. But unlike your typical party debris, this cyclone of recyclables is worth many thousands of dollars (and was already put on reserve).
