The Moving Image art fair announced that Jessica Faiss and Rollin Leonard had received the Moving Image Award at the video-focused fair’s latest outing in London, which opened Thursday and continues through Sunday. Faiss’s “Solitude” (2012) and Leonard’s “360º / 18 Lilia” (2013) will be acquired by the 53 Art Museum in Guangzhou, whose curator James Hu selected the winning works.
Faiss, a Switzerland-born, Sweden-based artist, is represented by Stockholm’s Galleri Flach, while Leonard, a resident of Portland, Maine, shows with Brooklyn’s Transfer Gallery, where his solo show “Trunks, Stems & Heads” is currently on view. The two winning works are formally very different — Faiss’s video shows a gradual movement from interior to exterior in a deserted Nordic landscape, while Leonard’s piece is a kind of deconstructed portrait made up of 360 photographs — showcasing the rich variety of moving image artworks featured at the fair.
