On Tuesday Frieze London announced the lineup for its “Projects” program at the upcoming London edition in October at Regent’s Park. Frieze Projects is a curated group of site-specific commissions that are placed throughout the fair, which runs October 17-20. The program will include seven commissioned projects, as well as the Emdash award, which allows an emerging artist from outside the U.K. to present a new work at the fair. This year, the winner is Finnish-born artist Pilvi Takala.
The artists selected to make work for the Projects program by curator Nicola Lees include Greek architect Andreas Angelidakis, Australian Gerry Bibby, Brazilian Rivane Neuenschwander, American Ken Okiishi, Greek artist Angelo Plessas, France’s Lili Reynaud-Dewar, and Austrian Josef Strau.
Angelidakis’s contribution is an architectural structure within the fair that will provide a platform for the six other artists’ projects. Newly hired curator Lees said in a statement: “Our approach has been to engage the public in a very playful and performative programme.” Within Angelidakis’s bespoke design there is a front stage and a back stage; five of the artists will use the front stage space in turn, with a different commissioned artist presenting a performance each day.
