One of the most-buzzed-about attractions at this year’s Frieze New York fair is a key to a secret speakeasy bar, designed by artist Liz Glynn. One hundred lucky visitors — chosen at random — get access to the hidden watering hole, along with the option of bringing a guest. But don’t tell that to John Waters.
Offered a key during yesterday’s preview by an eager young staffer who clearly thought the legendary gross-out filmmaker, artist, and collector would be a good choice, Waters briefly pondered her explanation before quipping, “No, I don’t like maps or puzzles,” and striding away with a friend in tow.
The staffer appeared dejected at first but then quickly shook it off and laughed at her encounter.
