“Amazing Spider-Man” star Andrew Garfield swung through Frieze New York during yesterday’s VIP preview, pausing in Gavin Brown’s booth to check out works by Jonathan Horowitz (above), while famed designer Valentino Garavani added a dash of style to the proceedings, and drew stares.
In the opening minutes of the fair, former tennis star and current art fan John McEnroe was spotted eyeing a Spencer Finch light sculpture at James Cohan Gallery. Other bold-faced names included mayor Michael Bloomberg, architect Peter Marino, collectors Don and Mera Rubell, Jerry Speyer, and Henry Kravis and wife Marie Josee, as well as artists Maurizio Cattelan, Josephine Meckseper, John Waters, and Chuck Close.
Meanwhile, outside, a small group of labor activists gathered to protest the fair’s use of non-union construction workers.
