Last week’s blockbuster news that the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) had, at the request of the board of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), made a formal proposal to take over the latter institution, spawned much debate, none so important as the question of what type of hybrid acronym such a merger might produce — even though it was made quite clear that MOCA would retain its name in the event of a LACMA takeover.
Twitter has offered LACMOCA, while artist and museum logo satirist Susan Silton (she of last summer’s MOCA remix series) offered LOCA (above). For our part, we prefer the sound of “LOCMA,” “LACMACA,” and our favorite, “MOCMA.”
