For its fourth edition, Rhizome’s Seven on Seven conference pairing seven artists with seven experts in digital media technology will move from its venue of previous years — the basement theater at the New Museum — to the New School’s Tishman Auditorium. There, from noon-6pm on April 20, the seven pairs of participants will each unveil the fruits of their day-long collaborations.
Of the 14 participants, Rhizome has just announced 12. Two technologists will be added on March 14. For now, the participants in this year’s conference are as follows:
Technologists: Tara Tiger Brown (LA Makerspace), Dalton Caldwell (App.net, PicPlz), Dennis Crowley (Foursquare), Harper Reed (Threadless, Obama for America 2012), and Julie Uhrman (Ouya).
Artists: Paul Pfeiffer, Jeremy Bailey, Fatima Al Qadiri, Jill Magid, Cameron Martin, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer and Matthew Ritchie.
Discounted early bird tickets ($25) are currently available, through March 15, at which time they will go up to $40.
A highlight of last year’s conference was a collaboration between conceptual photographer Taryn Simon and the late Internet activist Aaron Swartz, whose exchange resulted in Cultural Differences, an image search engine illustrating how Google searches for the same words turn up different results in different countries and regions. That prototype eventually became the functional search engine Image Atlas, on permanent display on the New Museum’s website.
