KAWS Will Kick Off a New Mural Program at the Brooklyn Academy of Music

Last summer the Brooklyn Academy of Music debuted a series of modular, sculptural bike racks designed by artist and musician David Byrne, and now the visual and performing arts pioneer is planning another major public art project, a new mural space opposite its main Howard Gillman Opera House that would host a rotating series of public art installations, beginning with local art star KAWS.

Brooklyn’s Community Board 2 will vote on the proposal on Wednesday, Brownstoner reports, which would call for the new mural to be created at the currently empty lot at 31 Lafayette Avenue. The space would host a rotating mural program, beginning with KAWS’s neon-hued cartoon-closeup. In addition to the murals, the space would host another of Byrne’s typographic bike racks.
