New York’s Art in General Co-Curated Latvia’s Venice Biennale Pavilion

Today Zane Čulkstēna and Zane Onckule, the commissioners of Latvia’s pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale announced that pavilion curators Anne Barlow and Courtenay Finn — the director and curator, respectively, of New York non-profit Art in General — and Alise Tīfentāle, an independent curator and art historian working on behalf of the kim? Contemporary Art Center in Riga, Latvia, have selected Kaspars Podnieks and Krišs Salmanis to represent Latvia at the 2013 Biennale.

Podnieks and Salmanis, both of whom work in photography, video, and installation art, will collaborate on a site-specific installation titled “North by North-East” — a pun on the Alfred Hitchcock-Cary Grant adventure film “North by Northwest” — investigating our shifting relationships to our natural and man-made environments.

The artists and representatives from kim? and Art in General will reveal additional information about the Latvian Pavilion exhibition at a press conference in New York during Armory Week.
