This morning Art Miami LLC — the company behind Miami’s oldest art fair, Art Miami — announced the acquisition of the satellite hotel fair Aqua Art Miami, which is now in its eighth year of presenting contemporary art in the Aqua Hotel during the Art Basel Miami Beach fair week. Art Miami LLC will take over operation of Aqua at the end the fair’s 2012 edition on Sunday.
“”We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to take Aqua Art Miami to the next level,” Art Miami director Nick Korniloff said in a statement this morning. “We look forward to carrying on the great atmosphere and tradition that founders Jaq Chartier and Dirk Park have created for emerging and cutting edge galleries and their artists and collectors over the last eight years.”
“Dirk and I are thrilled to add our fair to the Art Miami umbrella — it’s great for the future of Aqua,” Aqua co-director Chartier said in this morning’s announcement. “Exhibitors and their artists will have much greater exposure and access to a larger art collector base by being associated with a major international art fair.”
With the addition of Aqua — which this year counts some 47 international exhibitors — Art Miami is in full-on expansion mode, having added its own CONTEXT Art Miami satellite fair to the mix this year.
