A month ago we marveled at a recreation of Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night” made of dominoes, and this month we have an even better — because edible — copy of a work by the Dutch post-Impressionist, a “Wheat Field with Cypresses” (1889) birthday cake.
Four days ago a new user on the image-sharing site Reddit named aniram078 shared the above image with the message: “My boyfriend once said he liked Van Gogh, so I made him this birthday cake.” The post has garnered a phenomenal response, presumably from underemployed art history grads who have nothing better to do.
Note the incredible technical sophistication of aniram078’s cake, in which van Gogh’s windswept sky has become a riot of blue, white, and yellow frosting, quite possibly the most delicious expression of inner torment as meteorological distress ever painted or baked.
