Did Jesus build Michael Heizer’s “Levitated Mass”? No, but he was at LACMA for the opening day ceremonies on Sunday. But you might think that nothing short of a miracle could have produced the monumental Land Art installation if it weren’t for this short time-lapse video of the entire construction process.
Yesterday LACMA uploaded this 48-second video that begins with the construction of the concrete trench, shows the arrival of the 340-ton boulder at the 18th second, and concludes with the removal of construction fences around the site.
It’s just like Jesus said, and we’re paraphrasing here: you can lead a rock to a trench, but you can’t make it levitate. Unless you’re Michael Heizer, and LACMA gives you a $10 million budget…
