Two years ago rapper Kanye West commissioned painter George Condo to create original artworks to serve as the covers for his single “Power” and the subsequent album, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” — the latter of which was deemed too racy by certain big box retailers. Now, West has dropped another new track, “Theraflu,” and the accompanying, unattributed painting is distinctly Condo-esque.
Kanye tweeted the artwork below shortly after “Theraflu” premiered on New York’s Hot 97 radio station Wednesday night.
No artist has been credited yet, but the painting of a nude female torso in a fur jacket with a bottle of the titular flu medicine where its head should be evokes Condo’s classically framed portraits — though the highly detailed drug packaging is more Warhol-esque, really.
The not-quite-classical nude has yet to elicit the same outrage as the “Fantasy” cover, though the song “Theraflu” has already ruffled some feathers (and furs). The animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has condemned the song for Kanye’s twice-repeated line, “Tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor,” which someone apparently told PETA about.
