Marina Abramovic Offers Blunt Love Advice for Artists

For the launch of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles gala that she is art directing this November, performance artist Marina Abramovic gives some striking love-life advice for artists. We can only hope that the rest of the benefit isn’t quite so emo. Click through for Abramovic’s sage suggestion.

Within the promotional materials for the upcoming gala was included the image below, along with the totally Livejournal-worthy self portrait featured at top left (who wouldn’t want that on their profile?).

Amen, sister. We at IN THE AIR can only surmise that Abramovic is referring to her on-off love affair with fellow performance artist Ulay (Uwe Laysiepen), a stormy relationship that began with violent, intimate collaborative performances in the ’70s and ended with a long walk along the Great Wall in 1988. The two are reportedly currently on good terms, but we can’t help but wonder when it comes to this passive-aggressive statement.

  2. Love it! And I do appreciate Marina Abramovic on so many levels. She can get emo on me any day. Especially love the LiveJournal reference. Well done. However I am not seeing any where to ‘click through’? Thanks!
