Van Gogh, the Game?

Wanna see something fun to brighten up your Monday? Check out artist Aled Lewis’s “How Appropriate. You Fight Like A Post-Impressionist,” a limited edition print featured in a show at the “SUPER iam8bit” show at Los Angeles’s iam8bit gallery.

The piece is from a series where he mashes together old-timey PC games with iconic works of art. In this particular case, Lewis is playing on the great LucasArts game “The Secret of Monkey Island” (1990) and Vincent Van Gogh’s “Night Cafe.” It appears that the Monkey Island hero is on a quest to reunite Vincent with his lost ear.

Lewis’s got a whole series of others that are equally clever, in that Cory Arcangel kind of way, which we’ll put in below. See if you can identify the games and art works he’s bringing together (the answers are on his Tumblr):
